Aluar inaugurated the fifth phase of its wind farm in Puerto Madryn, Chubut, last Thursday. With this expansion, the park reaches an installed capacity of 582 MW , making it the largest in Argentina.
The event was attended by company executives, public sector officials, and representatives from the private sector. Following a cumulative investment of $743 million, the Aluar Wind Farm comprises 119 wind turbines across an area of approximately 200 km², similar in size to the City of Buenos Aires.
It contributes about 12% of the installed wind power in Argentina, with a capacity equivalent to the consumption of 600,000 homes.
“Today we are inaugurating a completed park, but for us it is not an end point, but a starting point: an increasingly strong commitment by Aluar to integrate into the energy sector, consolidated in concrete actions and investments,” said Martín Levinas, CEO of Aluar.

This is not an isolated action: over the past 20 years, Aluar has reinvested $3.7 billion in the country and is already moving forward with its next projects: a solar park and battery storage systems that will be operational next year. The expansion of the park also transforms the company's energy mix, whose primary aluminum plant requires approximately 780 MW continuously.
From now on, it is projected that nearly 70% of the electricity used by Aluar will come from renewable sources, and that it will avoid the emission of more than 1 million tons of carbon dioxide per year.
“One out of every eight megawatts of wind power in the country is currently generated at the Aluar Wind Farm. What we generate by exporting to the world is reinvested in our country, and this wind farm is the concrete result of that decision,” stated Federico Merener, Vice President of Aluar. About Aluar: Aluar is the country's only primary aluminum producer.
For over 50 years, this Argentine company has generated its own energy and competed globally, exporting 9 out of every 10 tons to demanding markets such as the United States, Europe, and Japan. Currently, the Aluar Group employs more than 3,800 people.
