Batech Energy , a technology and services supply company, has expanded its offering for the Peruvian market to include everything from electrical substations to residential, commercial and industrial photovoltaic systems, and, recently, green hydrogen.
For this last segment, the company has established strategic alliances, such as with Tianjin Mainland Hydrogen Equipment Co.
Ltd., a leading Chinese firm in alkaline electrolyzer technology.
"We represent Tianjin for sales of alkaline electrolyzers and fuel cells in Peru," commented Edmundo Farge , CEO of Batech Energy .
One of the company's most recent achievements is the supply of a 1,000 m³/h electrolyzer for the Cachimayo plant, located in Cusco.
This project, carried out in collaboration with Tianjin, marks a milestone in the modernization of this plant, which belongs to the ENAEX Group. Edmundo Farge explained that the plant, inaugurated in 1965, is one of the oldest ammonia production plants in Latin America.
"It has seven electrolyzers that are already reaching the end of their lifespan," the prominent businessman explained, noting that this is why they are renewing the equipment.
"As a result of this work representing the Chinese company Tianjin, we won a bid for the project about two years ago in Chile.
It was an international tender, since the Cachimayo plant belongs to the ENAEX Group, a holding company that produces ammonia throughout Latin America, with operations in Brazil, Chile and Peru.
"Now, with our support, they are replacing one electrolyzer with another of greater capacity, from 350 m³/ha to 1,000 m³/h," explained the CEO of Batech Energy, who indicated that the electrolyzer was manufactured in China, has already arrived in Peru, and will potentially be installed in February of this year. New green hydrogen projects in sight: Batech Energy also seeks to expand its market presence by supplying equipment for other green hydrogen projects in the country.
Among other things, their CEO revealed that they have participated in the bidding process for the Yura cement plant project, part of the Gloria Group , which seeks to integrate an electrolysis plant to complement its operations. Edmundo Farge stated: "We are participating in a Yura bid to offer them technology for their electrolysis plant."
In parallel, the company is working on proposals for two megaprojects, one for Phelan Green Hydrogen and another for Verano Energy , both in Arequipa.
Regarding the first one, the CEO explained: "We have already made the technical proposal and the economic proposal is in the process of being prepared.
"It is a large project of 1.8 GW and involves the first 100 MW to be able to build an electrolysis plant," underlining the magnitude of the development.
For its part, Verano Energy plans to build a 5,850 MWp solar power generation complex, which will power the production of green hydrogen and ammonia at the Verano Horizon project.
This development, divided into five phases, is expected to reach a capacity of 1.65 million tons of green ammonia per year.
For now, Batech Energy is closely watching the initial phase of this megaproject, which includes a 1,500 MWp solar park with a production of more than 420,000 tons per year.
These flagship projects for Peru are expected to be implemented quickly following the modification of laws promoting renewable energy, as well as the regulations expected for these laws and for green hydrogen legislation.
According to Farge, the legal and regulatory framework would be conducive to catalyzing investments, but that would not be all.
"Green hydrogen here in Peru, and hydrogen in general, can be more competitive than in Chile or Brazil. Why? Well, because of the required investment rates and the lower electricity costs compared to Chile," he explained.
Furthermore, he highlighted that the technology from China, which arrives directly to Peruvian ports, "helps to reduce the cost in dollars per kilogram of hydrogen."
Mega event in Peru As part of the progress towards energy diversification proposed by the modification of Law No. 28832, Future Energy Summit (FES) will hold a mega renewable energy event in the country on September 29, which promises to bring together hundreds of executives from the sector, as it has been doing in other latitudes.
It is worth noting that in February, on the 26th and 27th at the Hotel Emperador in Buenos Aires, more than 500 industry leaders will participate in the meeting, at a time when the energy sector is awaiting the update of new MATER mechanisms, the definition of new electric transport works and a public tender for approximately 500 MW of battery system power.
The tour will then continue in Mexico on March 11 with FES Mexico, and on April 2 and 3 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, FES Caribe will take place.
In both cases, the main companies in the sector will assess the reality of the market and the region.
It is worth noting that the meetings include exclusive networking spaces.
