The solar energy market in Colombia is reaching a new level of maturity, reflected in significant expansion and diversification results. In 2025, solar generation surpassed coal generation for the first time, signaling a structural shift in the country's electricity mix.
In just three years, the share of renewable sources jumped from 1.5% to approximately 15% of installed capacity, highlighting the entry of new players: approximately 70% of the megawatts added in the period were developed by companies that were not part of the traditional dominant group, expanding competition and boosting the sector.
Despite the accelerated progress, energy demand is growing at an even more intense pace, requiring robust investments, estimated at around $5 billion, for the addition of approximately 6,000 MW in the coming years, which places the solar market at the center of the expansion and balancing strategies of the Colombian electricity system.
With this rapid expansion and increased demand in the sector, Sungrow, a global leader in photovoltaic inverters and energy storage solutions, announces the expansion of its presence in Colombia through a strategic collaboration with Bemco, which will now act as the brand's official distributor in the country. This move reinforces the company's growth strategy in Latin America and expands access to high-efficiency, reliable, and high-performance technologies, in line with the evolving requirements of a market increasingly focused on the profitability and performance of solar assets.
With a solid 25-year track record in the photovoltaic sector, Sungrow products operate in more than 150 countries worldwide. In Latin America, the company already has its own active team in several countries creating and developing solutions for the Andean region, the Caribbean, and Brazil, having generated 25 GW in Latin America, of which 1.5 GW are in Colombia alone . Now, the company is establishing a new local partnership and preparing for a new phase of growth with an expanded portfolio of inverters and BESS (Building Energy Storage Systems).
The operation is considered strategic and beneficial. On the one hand, Sungrow strengthens its presence in the region by expanding the distribution of its equipment through a major logistics network partner in the sector. On the other hand, Bemco adds to its portfolio one of the most recognized global brands in terms of efficiency, reliability, and technological innovation. According to Samuel Costa, Sales Manager for GD LATAM , "the expansion now includes a larger, local structure dedicated to the Colombian market, as well as an official distributor, which will allow us to operate in a broader area of the country's solar market, with greater reach and representation. With this collaboration, we expect to accelerate our current growth and increase our market share in Colombia."
Globally recognized for its leadership in innovation, Sungrow offers a comprehensive portfolio of string and central inverters with efficiency exceeding 98%, as well as advanced battery energy storage systems (BESS) and high-performance batteries. These solutions are distinguished by features such as intelligent real-time monitoring, remote diagnostics, high integration capabilities with various module configurations, and robust operation under diverse environmental conditions—factors that directly impact the productivity and profitability of solar projects.
The collaboration with Bemco enables the availability of approximately 100 MW of equipment and solutions, covering residential, commercial, industrial, and distributed generation applications . This strengthens Sungrow's local service capacity, expanding its reach and ensuring closer proximity to investors, integrators, EPCs, and developers in the Colombian market.

To support this expansion, the operation will leverage Bemco's infrastructure, which includes a logistics center in Barranquilla, ensuring efficient distribution, stock availability, and fast deliveries throughout the country. Furthermore, the collaboration includes specialized technical support, training, and comprehensive project management, from specifications and design to after-sales service.
Bemco is part of Energy Holding , a leading energy group in Latin America, with a presence in four countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, and Chile. The group comprises 12 companies, employs over 200 professionals, and has more than 10 years of market experience. Bemco operates in key markets across the region and continues to grow, bringing high-quality solar technology to every corner of Latin America.
Bemco's General Manager, Sebastiaan De Beyter, highlights the company's performance in Colombia: “Beyond distribution, at Bemco we contribute technical and strategic value to each project, making us a key partner for the development of the energy sector in Colombia. This collaboration with Sungrow strengthens our ability to offer world-class solutions, backed by specialized support, innovation, and a deep understanding of the local market. We are focused on driving projects that are not only efficient but also set the standard for the country's energy transition.”
By strengthening its presence with a structured local partner, Sungrow is advancing its long-term strategy for the region, bringing to the Colombian market technologies already established in large-scale projects worldwide. This initiative also aligns with the evolution of the solar sector in the country, which now demands increasingly efficient and reliable solutions designed to maximize performance throughout the entire asset lifecycle.
Large-scale technology within reach of all segments
Sungrow's new strategy in Colombia seeks to democratize access to the technology used in some of the world's largest solar projects, adapting it to applications in homes, businesses, and commercial projects.
This includes solutions for:
- Residential systems;
- Commercial and industrial (C&I) projects;
- Distributed generation farms.
The goal is for Colombian integrators and developers to have access to utility-scale technology applicable to projects of all sizes.
With this expansion, Sungrow reinforces its long-term vision for Latin America and positions Colombia as one of its strategic markets for growth in the region. The arrival of a comprehensive portfolio of investors, combined with local support and a dedicated distribution channel, promises to drive the adoption of solar energy across all segments of the Colombian market.
