Brazil is moving forward with a new electricity infrastructure tender planned for this year. The National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) approved the draft terms and conditions for Transmission Auction 4/2026, a process that will mobilize an estimated R$8.9 billion in investment and aims to expand energy transmission capacity in various regions of the country.
The document has already been submitted to the Federal Court of Auditors (TCU) for review, a mandatory step before the final publication of the tender terms. The regulator expects to hold the auction on October 30.
The initiative includes the construction, operation and maintenance of projects distributed across seven states: Bahia, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraíba, Paraná, Rondônia and São Paulo.
In total, the package includes 1,866 kilometers of new transmission and sectioning lines , in addition to 13,564 MVA of transformation capacity , infrastructure considered key to support the growth of electricity demand and the incorporation of new renewable projects into the system.

The star lot exceeds R$ 4 billion
Within the project portfolio, the largest asset is Lot 4 , which concentrates investments estimated at R$ 4.1 billion.
The project includes new lines and substations in Goiás, Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul, and will be tendered using a particular structure: two sublots will be auctioned separately and can later be combined to evaluate more competitive offers for the whole.
The strategy seeks to broaden investor participation and optimize final implementation costs.
According to ANEEL estimates, the execution of the projects will generate around 20,500 direct jobs during the construction phase.
The expected timeframes for the start of operations vary between 36 and 60 months from the signing of the concession contracts, depending on the complexity of each lot.
Expanding transmission infrastructure has become a priority for Brazil, especially given the strong growth in renewable energy generation. The expansion of wind and solar farms demands a more robust grid to transport energy from production centers to major consumption hubs.
Public consultation and next steps
Before reaching the current stage, the draft of the tender was submitted to Public Consultation No. 006/2026 , open between April 9 and May 25.
During that period , 258 contributions were received from 33 participants , of which 94 were fully incorporated into the final text presented by the regulator.
Interested companies can still submit technical queries to ANEEL until August 6th.
The next key milestone will be in September, when the Federal Court of Auditors issues its assessment of the process. Following that review, ANEEL's board must approve the final version of the tender specifications before the auction takes place.
