The Chilean Ministry of Energy published in the Official Gazette Exempt Decree No. 111, dated April 24, 2026, which grants PV Volcán Chascón SpA —a renewable energy company belonging to Biwo Renovables SA— the definitive concession for the construction of Section 1 of the 1x220 kV Volcán Chascón – SE Nueva Lampa Transmission Line , in the commune of Lampa, Chacabuco province, Metropolitan Region.
The publication of the Decree brings to a close an extensive processing procedure before the Superintendency of Electricity and Fuels (SEC), initiated in December 2024. Obtaining this concession, along with the Environmental Qualification Resolution (RCA) for the photovoltaic park—currently under evaluation by the SEA, awaiting the issuance of the Consolidated Evaluation Report (ICE)—, constitute the regulatory milestones that will enable the start of construction of the project, estimated for the first half of 2027 .

Project features

The Volcán Chascón photovoltaic park will have an installed capacity of 94.42 MWp and a nominal capacity of 90 MW , using 700 Wp photovoltaic panels complemented by a lithium-ion battery energy storage system (BESS). The project will be located on a site exceeding 110 hectares in the Lampa district of Santiago, making it the closest utility-scale solar park to the Chilean capital . The total investment for the project is estimated at USD $155 million .

The transmission line
The concession granted corresponds to Section 1 of the transmission line that will evacuate the energy generated by the park to the National Electric System. With an approximate extension of 6.9 kilometers , the line operates at high voltage at 220 kV and combines an initial overhead section with a predominantly underground route, connecting the Volcán Chascón substation with the Nueva Lampa substation, injection point to the SEN.
The voice of Biwo Renovables
Francisco Prado Delgado , concessions manager at Biwo Renovables, emphasized that the publication of the decree marks a step forward in the project's construction. “This is the result of a long regulatory and technical process. The project will directly contribute to meeting the energy demand of the Metropolitan Region through non-conventional renewable sources.”
“Volcán Chascón is a unique project: its proximity to Santiago, combined with the incorporation of a battery energy storage system (BESS), will allow us not only to generate clean energy, but also to manage it efficiently to meet the region's real energy demand. This makes it extraordinarily attractive from an investment standpoint and a concrete contribution to Chile's energy security,” he pointed out.
Biwo Renovables SA is a Chilean company that develops renewable energy projects, with a portfolio of photovoltaic solar generation initiatives throughout the country.
