The Minister of Mines and Energy reaffirmed the priority of Andean electrical integration for the region, as key to advancing towards greater energy security, with a long-term vision and strengthening international cooperation among sister nations. She also highlighted the importance of the interconnection with Ecuador as a benchmark for the Andean Electrical System (SINEA), given its successful experience demonstrating the value of having systems capable of complementing and supporting each other, especially with a view to future interconnections. “The future interconnection between Ecuador and Peru represents a highly significant step, as it will allow us to move towards an electrical corridor between Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru and, additionally, strengthen a regional vision that, with the progressive participation of Bolivia and Chile, expands the possibilities for energy exchange and cooperation,” stated Minister Arboleda. During the meeting, the Bogotá Declaration for Andean Electrical Interconnection and Integration was approved, through which the countries reaffirmed their commitment to continue advancing the implementation of the SINEA 2020-2030 Roadmap and the progressive consolidation of the Andean Regional Electricity Market. This Declaration reflects the commitment to continue the technical, regulatory, and institutional developments required to enable regional electricity exchanges.
The meeting also formalized the transfer of the pro tempore presidency of the Andean Energy System (SINEA) from Colombia to Ecuador for the 2026-2027 period. “Today, Colombia hands over the pro tempore presidency to Ecuador with full confidence in its leadership and with the certainty that this agenda will continue to move forward. From Colombia, we reiterate our willingness to support them in this new stage and continue contributing to the strengthening of Andean electricity integration,” stated the Minister.
