At the Future Energy Summit (FES) Caribbean , JA Solar unveiled its new Deep Blue 5.0 module, a technology designed to maximize efficiency and performance in markets with high temperatures and humidity. This announcement comes at a time when the Dominican Republic is experiencing a period of strong renewable energy growth, and energy storage is beginning to redefine the strategies of manufacturers and developers.
The new generation of modules incorporates improvements over the TOPCon technology previously used by the company in the Deep Blue 4.0 Pro line. According to Víctor Saldaña , Sales Manager for Central America and the Caribbean at JA Solar, the goal is to optimize degradation, efficiency, and operational performance in tropical regions.
“ We have already launched our latest product: the Deep Blue 5.0 ,” Saldaña stated in an exclusive interview with Energía Estratégica. He added, “ With this module, we are achieving better degradation rates, improved efficiency, and better performance in tropical locations with high temperatures and humidity .”

The executive also detailed that the Deep Blue 5.0 improves performance compared to the previous generation, with power outputs starting from 650 W and potentially reaching 670 W, primarily targeting utility-scale projects and large developers.
“We are improving what we were already working on with Deep Blue 4.0 Pro to this improved version,” the executive highlighted.
The launch comes at a time when the Dominican Republic is accelerating regulatory definitions and new investment schemes linked to the BESS (Basic Energy Storage System). During FES Caribe, much of the discussion revolved around the deployment of storage systems for both new renewable energy plants and existing facilities.
In fact, Dominican authorities anticipated a new round of tenders related to energy storage during the meeting. The country plans to incorporate up to 2,000 MW of battery storage and energy efficiency systems (BSES) by 2036-2037 and is already working on new competitive processes to add batteries to both new renewable energy projects and existing power plants.
The official signal comes after the first public tender EDES-LP-NGR-01-2025, with BESS, which finally awarded 325.69 MW of renewable capacity , below the 600 MW initially expected by the market, although marking a starting point to order the incorporation of storage into the Dominican electricity system.
In addition, a new wave of tenders with more than 800 MWh at stake was also announced during the event, reinforcing the expectations of developers, manufacturers and technology providers regarding the Dominican market.
In line with this market transformation, JA Solar also moved forward with a new line of batteries. “Everything is evolving towards energy storage policies,” Saldaña stated.

The executive emphasized that the integration of solar and battery storage will be one of the main drivers of growth for the Caribbean in the coming years. “ During the event, discussions focused on how battery storage systems can support both new and existing power plants ,” he added.
Faced with this scenario, the company decided to expand its portfolio towards BESS solutions to support the regional energy transition.
“At JA we have already launched a BESS product line,” revealed Saldaña, who emphasized that the strategy seeks to respond to the rapid evolution shown by the Dominican market.
The company's position also aligns with recent warnings made by JA Solar representatives during FES Caribe about global pressure on module prices and the risks associated with low-quality solutions in utility-scale projects.
As the country moves towards new tenders and greater incorporation of storage, manufacturers are beginning to reposition themselves for a stage where the stability of the electrical system and renewable integration will gain increasing importance.
“ It’s a market that’s moving quite fast ,” Saldaña summarized.
When asked about the company's expectations for 2026 and 2027, the executive stated that the next leap in the market will be marked by hybrid projects combining renewables and batteries.
JA Solar's strategy not only includes technological provision but also technical and regulatory support to developers, EPC contractors and energy authorities.
“ As manufacturers, we like to support both installers and developers ,” Saldaña noted.
Furthermore, he considered it crucial to move forward with public bodies to accelerate regulatory frameworks that will allow this technology to be deployed on a large scale.
With more efficient modules, a strategy focused on tropical climates, and the launch of BESS solutions, JA Solar seeks to position itself within a new stage for the Dominican Republic, where storage is beginning to consolidate as a central piece of renewable expansion in the Caribbean.
