Mexico is preparing to award another 4,595 MW of photovoltaic capacity during the remainder of 2026, as part of a new round of mixed and private tenders through which the government seeks to add more than 6 GW of renewable energy before the end of the year. This process follows the awarding of 7,400 MW corresponding to 37 projects under the first mixed scheme between the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) and private developers, revitalizing a market that is once again attracting the interest of international manufacturers and suppliers.
Axial has already begun positioning itself to supply trackers and fixed structures for part of this new project portfolio . During his participation in the Future Energy Summit (FES) Mexico 2026 , Pablo Oliva , Sales Manager for Latin America at the company, stated: "We are considering a fairly high volume of projects in the short to medium term, approximately 3 to 4 GW."

This volume is supported by the schedule of new tenders planned by Mexican authorities. The technical evaluation of the tenders and their alignment with the binding planning criteria of the electricity system will take place during October, the same month in which the projects finally approved by the Technical Committee of the National Energy Commission (CNE) will be announced. The tenders include both joint ventures with the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) and priority private projects, expanding opportunities for the entire supply chain.

Solar energy will be the main driver of this expansion. The energy strategy presented by the Mexican government anticipates adding 32 GW of new electrical capacity during the current six-year term , of which 22 GW will come from renewable technologies . Within this objective, photovoltaic energy will account for approximately 12.3 GW , solidifying its position as the technology with the greatest projected growth in the coming years.
The prominence of photovoltaics was already evident in the first calls for proposals. In the mixed scheme promoted by the CFE, solar projects registered a participation that practically doubled the initially required capacity, with 6,710 MW awarded compared to a target of 3,550 MW , while the calls for priority private projects also showed strong interest in the development of photovoltaic plants and storage systems.
In that context, Oliva clarified that the 3 to 4 GW pipeline does not imply that Axial will participate in all the projects. On the contrary, he explained that the strategy consists of selecting only those initiatives with the highest probability of being executed.

"We are being quite selective with the projects we participate in. There are many projects, a lot of volume, there's work for everyone, but we are trying to focus our efforts on the projects that are best studied technically and that have technical and financial backing," he said.
Axial asserts that its industrial capacity allows it to supply installations of varying scales. "We have the flexibility to manufacture projects ranging from 5 or 10 MW to 800 MW or 1 GW," the executive explained.
This flexibility, he added, allows us to support both large developers and companies that promote plants of 20, 30, 40 or 100 MW , provided that the projects present technical and economic conditions that guarantee their viability.
Along those lines, Oliva suggested that part of the market is being driven by aggressive competition.
"There's a globalization of the market that strongly encourages new players to enter, players with a real hunger for price. We are completely averse to that philosophy. We continue to seek clients who prioritize product quality and service quality over pure price," he noted.
"We continue to maintain the quality standards that have defined us since 2007 or 2008. We continue to seek clients who prioritize product quality and service quality over pure price," he added.
The company's strategy also responds to a regional repositioning plan, to "return to the Mexican market and be one of the main players in LATAM."
