Agere Energy & Infrastructure Partners launches the new version BESO 2.0 (Battery Energy Storage Optimizer), a technical-financial platform in Excel that reduces to minutes analyses that today require days or weeks.
Vicente Jorro , founding partner of Agere: "We wanted to make a valuation model accessible to everyone, with the best methodology for predicting hourly prices, affordable by monthly subscription."
Energy storage is at a pivotal moment. In Europe, and especially in Iberia, the portfolio of BESO projects is growing at a double-digit rate, and with it, the complexity of analyzing them: it is no longer enough to estimate arbitrage; it is necessary to model volatility, revenue streams, degradation curves, cycles, efficiency (RTE), states of charge and health (SoC and SoH), grid constraints, sophisticated PPAs, and hybrid and even tri-hybrid configurations. This is where BESO 2.0 comes in.
From feasibility to the all-in-one investment decision

BESO 2.0 covers the entire cycle—from initial feasibility to final investment decision—entirely in Excel and without combining multiple tools. At its core is a sizing optimizer that evaluates hundreds of power and duration combinations to identify the configuration that maximizes revenue, NPV, and/or IRR: what manually requires days of iterations, is now solved in minutes. It supports standalone, hybrid, and tri-hybrid (BESS + Solar PV + Wind/Hydro) projects with high temporal and financial granularity by technology, and incorporates automated professional reporting and direct integration with financial models in Excel.

Time optimization throughout the entire lifespan
A differentiating element is the calculation of the optimal loading and unloading strategy hour by hour throughout the life of the project.
The model does not use a "typical year": it incorporates actual degradation, State of Cost (SoC), State of Housing (SoH), asymmetric import/export restrictions—both firm and flexible—and optimizes the number of cycles to maximize revenue and profitability. It includes a contract analysis module that evaluates up to seven PPA and contract structures (Tolling, Baseload, Floor/Cap, Collar, Shaped, Contract for Development (CfD), and as-Produced), allowing for the quantification of the financial impact of each in a market where contractual sophistication is rapidly increasing.
David Pérez , managing director of the consulting area at Agere, stated: “ In a market where storage is no longer optional, having tools capable of modeling technical and financial complexity is no longer a competitive advantage. BESO 2.0 arrives with the ambition of becoming the benchmark for the sector .”
Risks and scenarios in an increasingly uncertain market
For investment and finance teams, BESO 2.0 incorporates a Monte Carlo engine that models key uncertainties—price volatility, generation variability, cost deviations—and returns the complete probability distribution of NPV, IRR, Payback and LCOS by percentiles, as well as VaR and CVaR metrics for internal analysis and presentation to funders and committees.
Price curves can be entered manually or sourced from VIVO Price, Agere's own service that generates hundreds of hourly curves of the Iberian market using parametric functions and Low/Central/High scenarios updated quarterly.
The differentiating factor: simplicity and Excel
Paradoxically, one of the main advantages of BESO 2.0 is not only its sophistication but also its simplicity: it runs entirely in Excel, operates on a laptop locally, without cloud storage, and the data never leaves the user's laptop. The learning curve is measured in hours, not days.

Built from real market experience
Behind BESO is Agere, a firm specializing in market advice, financial advice and M&A in renewable energy, renewable gases and infrastructure.
Years ago, the company created a specialized area in energy storage, made up of a senior team of five experts with more than 25 years of average experience in investment, financing, market, regulation, modeling and technical analysis.
The team has already advised on several gigawatts of storage projects for multiple clients. According to Agere, this direct experience in real-world projects is what differentiates BESO from other solutions developed from a purely technological perspective.
