Although there is still no official confirmation, industry sources indicate that the Dominican Republic may have redefined the scope of the EDES-LP-NGR-01-202 International Public Tender . The allocation for the country's first BESS tender has reportedly been reduced to 350 MW , significantly lower than initially expected, altering the scenario closely monitored by developers and investors.
This data is significant because just weeks ago the market was even considering expanding the auction to 605 MW , which would have reinforced expectations of an aggressive signal for battery deployment. However, the information that has begun to circulate points to a more restrictive approach.
Sources consulted by Energía Estratégica also indicate that there has already been an exchange between authorities and finalists, although without subsequent public communication.
If confirmed, the definition would not only substantially reduce the allocated capacity, but would also introduce new questions about the system's actual limitations in absorbing large-scale storage.

Within the sector, the main interpretation is that network constraints weighed heavily on the outcome , something that is beginning to emerge as a critical variable for future processes.

This hypothesis would also help explain the criteria used to select projects. According to what this publication was able to reconstruct, eleven initiatives remained , following the order of the preliminary list to reach a cumulative total of 350 MW.
Under that logic, part of the capacity that the market expected to see incorporated —about 255 MW compared to the 605 MW scenario— would have been left out, although the expectation persists that those projects may find space in future calls.
The unofficial version also appears to be in tension with recent messages from the Government, which during FES Caribe anticipated new tenders for more than 800 MWh and a projection of 2000 MW in storage in the medium term.
This framework allows for a less linear interpretation of the eventual cutback: far from representing a structural brake, it could reflect a specific adjustment while the country organizes network conditions for a greater expansion.
Even so, the signal is significant for developers. If transmission capacity begins to dictate the effective volume that can be allocated, that factor could become central to structuring future bids, pricing, and risk assessment.
Although there is still no official announcement and caution persists in the market regarding these reports, if the information is confirmed, the process could reopen the debate about the importance of transmission capacity in future rounds of storage.
