The Haina Electricity Generating Company (EGE Haina), the largest public-private electricity company in the Dominican Republic, is advancing in its decarbonization process and increasing operating assets by 2030.
Currently, EGE Haina has 466 MW of installed renewable energy, representing 38% of its total installed capacity, and all of them are backed by medium and long-term contracts.
That dynamic of trust between the private sector and the State has been key for EGE Haina to project reaching 1,000 MW of renewables by 2030, according to its strategic plan defined since 2019.
From there, an additional 625 MW are in the permitting process, combining solar and wind technologies to ensure technological diversification and grid stability.

During the Future Energy Summit Central America & The Caribbean (FES Caribe) meeting, Rosina Hernández , director of the Electricity Market at EGE Haina , anticipated: "We are going to have the largest hybridization park in the Dominican Republic.
This infrastructure consists of three blocks: the Esperanza I Solar Park (76 MW), already operational; the Esperanza II Solar Park, with 48.29 MW in an advanced stage of construction; and the Esperanza Wind Park, which will contribute 49.5 MW and is scheduled to begin operations in the second half of 2026.
The National Energy Commission (CNE) has already granted definitive concessions for these developments.
In particular, the Esperanza I Park has a signed power purchase agreement with the Government, while the Esperanza II block and the wind farm also have the necessary institutional support to move forward with operations.
Work on the facility is progressing mainly on the solar project.
However, progress is also being made in wind power technology.
According to Hernández , the technical team is already in the foundation stage for the wind turbines, which will be supplied by the firm Vestas.
The company is also evaluating the installation of battery storage systems, not only as a complement to its solar plants, but also as a frequency regulation solution and a mechanism to reduce transmission restrictions.
In this regard, the executive remarked: "We are also analyzing stand-alone installation projects to help with or streamline transmission restrictions."
Another strategic development for this year is the upcoming participation in the national tender announced by the Ministry during FES Caribe .
EGE Haina has projects in the pipeline ready to be presented, with or without associated storage: "Now in 2025 we are eagerly awaiting, I imagine like everyone else, the launch of the tender that our minister has already announced," commented Hernández.
In addition to renewables, the company is completing the expansion cycle of its SIBA plant, a 68 MW natural gas project with two heat recovery units, aimed at improving efficiency without increasing fuel consumption.
"What they are going to do is increase the plant's capacity and increase efficiency without increasing fuel use," said the Director of the Electricity Market.
"We are quite firmly established here in supporting the transition of the Dominican Republic's energy matrix," Hernández stated, reviewing projects in his portfolio that would contribute to the decarbonization of the Dominican economy from the electricity sector.
