The latest list published by Red Eléctrica includes 50 applications for demand access with a combined capacity of 2,021.5 MW , accepted for processing until July 12 at nodes of the transmission network with a voltage equal to or greater than 220 kV.
Most of the files correspond to battery installations that need to consume energy from the grid to charge their systems.
In total, there are 35 storage requests for 1,161.5 MW , equivalent to 57.5% of all the capacity included in the publication .
The largest individual request for storage is located in El Palmar 400 kV , in the Region of Murcia, where a 159 MW installation is being processed.

Cartuja 220 kV , in Andalusia, follows with an application for 90.75 MW , while in Ayora 400 kV , in the Valencian Community, there is another project of 72 MW .
However, the most relevant movement appears in the nodes that concentrate several files.
In Zarzón , Extremadura, four storage applications total 154.05 MW . Three of them propose 37.35 MW each, and a fourth reaches 42 MW.
Also noteworthy is Carmona 400 kV , where three projects are requesting 36.665 MW each , for a total of almost 110 MW .
At Caparacena 400 kV , three other requests total 73.12 MW , while Tabernas 400 kV brings together two initiatives of 35 MW, with 70 MW in total .
The concentration is repeated in La Solana 220 kV , with two applications totaling 45.39 MW, and in Cabra 400 kV , where three 2.52 MW batteries share position with other demand projects.
The list does not imply that all facilities will be granted capacity. These are applications received and accepted for processing, so their viability will depend on technical analysis, the actual availability of the node, and, where applicable, any competitive bidding procedures that may be activated.
Six large consumers account for 845 MW
The other side of the publication consists of a small group of consumer projects with much higher power outputs.
Just six applications in demand-driven positions total 845 MW , almost 42% of all registered capacity .
The largest is located in Íllora 220 kV , Andalusia, with 407 MW . It alone represents about a fifth of the volume included in the document.
Next is Fuencarral 400 kV , in the Community of Madrid, with a request for 150 MW .
The group is completed by:
- Saguntum 220 kV , Valencian Community: 100 MW .
- Goat 400 kV , Andalusia: 94 MW .
- Los Montes 220 kV , Andalusia: 50 MW .
- Chucena 220 kV , Andalusia: 44 MW .
Red Eléctrica does not identify the developers in the document, nor does it specify the economic activity associated with this consumption. Therefore, the list allows us to measure the magnitude of the demand, but it does not yet attribute the applications to data centers, industry, hydrogen, or other energy-intensive uses.

The comparison, however, shows two different speeds: batteries dominate in number of projects, but a few large consumers mobilize almost the same volume of power .
Andalusia concentrates more than 1 GW
The territorial map shows a particularly marked concentration.
Andalusia has 24 applications for approximately 1,050.5 MW , which represents about 52% of all published capacity .
The volume is explained by the combination of high consumption and storage.
Íllora contributes 407 MW; Cabra has a demand request of 94 MW, three batteries and a self-consumption project; Cartuja incorporates another 90.75 MW of storage; and Carmona, Caparacena and Tabernas concentrate multiple files.
Projects are also listed in Chucena, Casaquemada, Dos Hermanas, Don Rodrigo, Gazules and Los Montes.
Self-consumption completes the map with 15 MW
In addition to storage and large consumers, Red Eléctrica registers nine applications for self-consumption , totaling 15 MW.
Most projects propose capacities of 1 MW, although the Dos Hermanas 220 kV project stands out, with 7 MW.
These projects correspond to demand facilities linked to generation plants and connected in positions originally designed to evacuate electricity.
Brazatortas, the only application with an active contest
Among the 50 requests, only one appears expressly linked to a node with an activated competition .
This is a request for storage of 20.66 MW in Brazatortas 400 kV , Castilla-La Mancha.
Red Eléctrica simultaneously published a list of 57 nodes eligible for tenders for demand access capacity . The list includes, among others, Algeciras, Algete, Arañuelo, Brazatortas, Palos, Pinar de Rey, Puigpelat, and Zona Franca.
The fact that a node appears in that relationship means that the system operator has communicated that the circumstances for holding a competition are met, in accordance with articles 20 bis and 20 quater of Royal Decree 1183/2020.
It does not, in itself, imply that the procedure has been initiated or that there is an award underway.
An X-ray of appetite, not of granted capacity
The publication responds to the obligation incorporated in article 20 quater of Royal Decree 1183/2020 and functions as a snapshot of the applications that are entering the system.
Therefore, the 2,021.5 MW do not represent granted access permits or definitively authorized projects .
They do reflect where the developers' interest is concentrated and which technologies are putting the most pressure on the network.
