The guarantee will support the AMBA I and Puerto Madryn–Choele Choel/Choele Choel–Bahía Blanca projects, two strategic works to expand transmission capacity and strengthen the Argentine Interconnection System (SADI). The instrument will help reduce risks for investors and mobilize private capital toward long-term investments in strategic infrastructure.
The program is expected to directly benefit 16 million users, including households and businesses, by contributing to a more reliable electricity supply.
The approval comes just weeks after the conference "The Reconstruction of the Argentine Electrical Transmission System," where the national government presented the AMBA I tender to national and international investors, banks, investment funds, companies, and ambassadors. It was anticipated at the conference that the public works concession would have the backing of the IDB, which is now formally approved.

This is also the first individual operation under a Conditional Credit Line for Investment Projects (CCLIP).

AMBA I is the first of 16 strategic initiatives in the National Electricity Transmission Expansion Plan, which includes investments of over USD 6.6 billion and the addition of 5,610 km of 500 kV lines throughout the country. The approval of the IDB guarantee strengthens the predictability and clear rules that the national government has been developing to attract private capital to the electricity infrastructure.
In the case of AMBA I, the project will require an estimated investment of USD 800 million and will incorporate approximately 270 kilometers of 500 kV, 220 kV, and 132 kV transmission lines , in addition to a new transformer substation in Plomer and reactive power compensation systems. According to Energía Estratégica , the expansion will add around 2,000 MW of supply capacity to the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area , while the bidding process anticipates receiving the first offers in December 2026 and moving toward awarding the contract in early 2027.
