Genneia anticipates that the Mendoza Sur Solar Park will reach commercial operation around 2029 , following a construction period estimated at 22 to 24 months. The plant will have an installed capacity of 404 MW and will be located on approximately 1,130 hectares in San Rafael, Mendoza .
“The Mendoza Sur Solar Park will become the largest-scale project in the country, with state-of-the-art technology,” said Enrique Pérez Cárdenas, leader of Solar Development at Genneia, during the project's public hearing, a key stage in obtaining the Environmental Impact Statement.
The project includes over 900,000 bifacial solar modules, 16,000 trackers, 1,492 inverters, and 52 transformer substations . The construction schedule encompasses earthmoving, civil works, mechanical and electrical assembly, and interconnection infrastructure.
“It will have a construction period of between 22 and 24 months in all its stages, which will begin with earthmoving, then displacement of all contractors; we will start with civil works, we will go to mechanical works, electrical works, interconnection works and then we will seek to have an approximate COD for the year 2029,” Pérez Cárdenas explained.

The location responds to two technical factors: the solar resource of Mendoza and the possibility of evacuating the production to the Argentine electrical system , since it will be connected through the Río Diamante Transformer Station, located to the west of the project .
In this way, the Mendoza Sur solar park will deepen the photovoltaic expansion that Genneia has been deploying in the province, reaching nearly 800 MW in the Cuyo region, while reinforcing the renewable supply intended for large users.
“In Mendoza we have invested some USD 430 million to develop solar parks in Malargüe, Luján and San Rafael, thinking above all about the MATER (Renewable Energy Term Market),” said Agustín Heredia, Public Affairs and Sustainability Manager of the company .
“In all these years of development, today we have more than 100 corporate and industrial clients who receive our energy,” he stated.
Some details of Mendoza Sur had already been revealed by Energía Estratégica at the end of February , during the inauguration of the 180 MW Anchoris Solar Park. On that occasion, the president of Genneia, Jorge Brito , previewed aspects of a development whose investment would exceed USD 300 million and which could fall under the Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI).
The new plant will be incorporated into a platform that, according to data provided by the company, currently reaches 946 MW of wind power and 839 MW of photovoltaic power , being the first to achieve almost 1.8 GW of renewable energy in Argentina.
“Today we hold 24% of the wind and solar energy market in Argentina. Meanwhile, we have already issued more than USD 1.28 billion in green bonds to date ,” emphasized the Public Affairs and Sustainability Manager, who linked these placements to improvements in the ratings awarded by Moody's and Standard & Poor's .
With Mendoza Sur, Genneia aims to add 404 MW of photovoltaic capacity to its portfolio and strengthen its position in the MATER program. The next critical step will be completing the various construction and interconnection phases to achieve the projected COD (Certification of Development) by 2029 .
