Spain is preparing a new electricity planning proposal so that the Valencian Community can meet up to 3.8 GW of additional demand , after incorporating changes derived from the 2566 claims received during the hearing phase.
The Secretary of State for Energy, Joan Groizard , analyzed the modifications together with Vicente Martínez, Third Vice President and Minister of Environment, Infrastructure, Territory and Recovery of the Valencian Government, within the framework of the round of contacts that the MITECO maintains with the autonomous communities.
The new proposal includes seven new substation parks , upgrades to most existing facilities, and a significant reinforcement of the transport network.
Specifically, the plan is to build 754 kilometers of new lines and upgrade another 718 kilometers , bringing the total volume of work on power lines in the Valencian Community to 1472 kilometers .

According to the Ministry, the proportion of reinforcement on Valencian lines is double the national average .
One of the priority areas will be the South-Levante-Aragon corridor, considered key to the integration of the transmission network. Various projects aimed at maximizing the interface between transmission and distribution and improving the stability of the electricity system will also be given priority.
The goal is for the transmission network to have sufficient capacity to absorb an additional 3.8 GW of new demand , to which the capacity that may emerge in the distribution networks must later be added.
Most of that growth will be linked to new industrial consumption and the electrification of existing industries , including the ceramic sector in Castellón.
Hydrogen production will also play a significant role, while the capacity allocated to new real estate developments stands out compared to that planned in other territories.
Added to this are needs associated with port electrification and land transport , two areas that will also require greater network capacity in the coming years.
More capacity for renewables and storage
Following the hearing phase, MITECO also added 15 new positions to the proposal.
Most will be used to strengthen the capacity of distribution networks and enable new connections for industry, housing and hydrogen production projects .
The reinforcement will not be limited to the growth in demand.
The proposal also includes increasing access capacity for new renewable generation by 2.6 GW , primarily for self-consumption solar installations.
In parallel, another 850 MW of access is reserved for storage , specifically intended for reversible hydroelectric projects.
With this, the planning seeks to align three simultaneous movements: the growth of electricity demand, the incorporation of new renewable generation, and the deployment of technologies capable of providing flexibility to the system.
The Valencian Community thus appears as one of the territories where industrial, residential and energy growth demands a particularly intense reinforcement of the electrical infrastructure.
If the proposal moves forward in its processing, the region will have an additional 3.8 GW of capacity for demand, 2.6 GW for new renewable generation and 850 MW for storage , along with seven new substations and almost 1500 kilometers of work on power lines.
