Eurowind Energy obtained technical grid connection approvals for seven projects in Romania totaling 2307.4 MW during June. The portfolio combines wind and solar photovoltaic generation with battery storage.
Most of the capacity is concentrated in two wind farm developments that together account for 2088 MW and represent more than 90% of the approved package : Botoșani, with 1188 MW, and Albești, with another 900 MW.
“ Obtaining technical grid connection approvals for an additional 2,307.4 MW of capacity is an essential step in the development of our project portfolio ,” said Adrian Dobre, Country Manager of Eurowind Energy Romania .
The executive added that the progress “contributes directly to the national energy transition goals” .

The move comes in a market with a considerable volume of projects in the pipeline. Romania has already surpassed 113 GW of renewable energy pipeline , although around 89% of that capacity is not expected to become operational within the next five years , according to additional information provided to contextualize the market.
The figure reveals a significant gap between the announced projects and those that could actually be incorporated into the system during that period, in a scenario of intense competition for evacuation capacity.
The largest of Eurowind Energy's seven developments is located in Botoșani County and comprises 1188 MW of wind power distributed across nine parks . In terms of scale, it is the main asset included in the approvals obtained in June.
Next is Albești, with 900 MW in Constanța County , also based on wind power technology. Together, they account for 2088 MW of the total announced.
The rest of the wind portfolio is distributed among four locations. Stăncuța plans 49.6 MW in Brăila; Liești, 49.6 MW in Galați; Slobozia Conachi, another 49.6 MW in Galați; and Pechea completes 21.6 MW in that same county.
Technological diversification appears in Mănești, with 49 MW in Prahova , where the company combines photovoltaic generation with an energy storage system using batteries.
The BESS component is being incorporated at a time when Romania is promoting new tools to expand its flexibility resources. The country has moved forward with support initiatives worth €150 million aimed at financing more than 2 GWh of battery storage , according to the background information provided.

This is in addition to a 150 million euro auction associated with the awarding of 2174 MWh of storage , in parallel with the planned growth of variable renewable generation.
Regarding the timeline for the new developments, Dobre specified: “ The projects are scheduled to connect to the national energy system after 2030. ”
This horizon places the assets within a long-term expansion stage of the Romanian market and requires consideration of how the electrical infrastructure will evolve in relation to individual projects of up to 1188 MW.
Despite the progress made in terms of access, the developments will still have to go through further stages before they can become operational.
“ Its connection and the completion of the investment depend on the reinforcement of the grid ,” warned the Country Manager of Eurowind Energy Romania.
The warning carries weight given the more than 113 GW of renewable energy currently in various stages of development in Romania. The available infrastructure will play a central role in determining what proportion of that volume is transformed into new operational capacity.
Eurowind Energy's projects will also be subject to administrative approvals. Dobre noted that the realization of the investments will depend on "the timely issuance of construction permits."
In this way, the evolution of the portfolio will be linked both to the necessary works on the electrical system and to the processing times corresponding to each development.
“ We are taking all necessary measures and collaborating closely with network operators and authorities to carry out these projects ,” Dobre said.
The portfolio has a strong wind predominance, with 2088 MW concentrated solely between Botoșani and Albești , four additional smaller-scale developments and a hybrid photovoltaic project with storage.
With the new approvals, Eurowind Energy consolidates 2307.4 MW of capacity under development in Romania and adds large-scale assets to a market that already boasts one of the most voluminous renewable pipelines in the region.
The next phase will be marked by the ability to turn those approvals into built and connected projects, within a system that must accompany the renewable expansion planned for the next decade.
