Future Energy Summit (FES) Peru opens its doors today at the InterContinental Real Lima Miraflores Hotel , with an agenda focused on a question that is becoming crucial for the local electricity market: what does Peru need to transform more than 22 GW of renewable projects into investments that actually reach construction and operation?
The second edition of the meeting will bring together authorities, generators, developers, manufacturers, investors and technology providers throughout the day to discuss new renewable capacity, BESS storage, transmission, regulation, financing and the economic signals needed to accelerate projects .

The event comes at a particular time for the Peruvian market. The country currently has 2116.7 MW of operational solar and wind power , but has over 22 GW of both technologies under development .

The difference between the two numbers reflects one of the main challenges that the FES Peru panels will face.
Of that entire portfolio, only 3714 MW have a Definitive Generation Concession , so the debate is no longer just about how many projects exist, but about which ones will actually be able to move forward towards construction, secure contracts, ensure financing and connect to the grid .
Transmission and connection capacity will therefore be among the central points of the day, along with the regulatory changes needed to support a matrix with a growing renewable share.
Storage will also play a leading role.
The Peruvian BESS market presents a potential of close to 700 MW by 2030 , at a time when complementary services, system flexibility and economic signals that allow batteries to become financeable assets are becoming more relevant.
The discussion will seek to advance precisely on that point: what is needed for storage to make the leap from the pipeline and the first regulatory opportunities to larger-scale commercial projects .

The agenda will include representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) and César Butrón, president of the Board of Directors of the Economic Operation Committee of the National Interconnected System (COES) , in a context where network planning is increasingly linked to the pace that the new generation will be able to achieve.

Also present will be some of the top executives in the Peruvian energy sector.
Among them were Jaime Toledo, CEO for South America of ACCIONA Energía; Marco Fragale, CEO of Orygen; Juan Elías Salinas, general manager of Fenix Power; Rosa María Flores-Araoz, CEO of Kallpa Generación; Guillermo Grande, CEO of EDF Perú; Carlos Travezaño, general manager of Inland Energy (Luz del Sur); and Jefry Arce, operations manager of Celaris Energy .
Representatives from Yinson Renewables, Statkraft, Pluz Perú, FMO, AFRY, Solar DQD, Ventus and Grupo Elecnor , among other actors related to development, investment, operation, infrastructure and financing, will join the conversation.
The joint presence of generators and developers will allow concrete figures to be put on the table: how many of the projects currently in the pipeline could actually reach construction during the next few years, what volume of capital that expansion will require, and what are the bottlenecks that still condition the final investment decisions.
BESS, technology and the next wave of investments
The other major pillar of FES Peru will be the technology manufacturers and suppliers.
Companies such as Huawei, CATL, Antai, Factiun Sungrow and JA Solar , among others, will participate in the event with a focus on solutions for next generation, storage, digitalization and modernization of the electrical system.
The technological discussion will also intersect with a market that needs to define what combination of generation, networks and flexibility will allow it to keep pace with the growth in demand without deepening connection restrictions.
The starting point is compelling: more than 22 GW of renewable energy are seeking space within the system, but only a fraction of it currently has the necessary level of development to approach commercial operation .
Therefore, the FES Peru debate will bring together those who develop the projects, those who must finance them, those who provide the technology, and those who define the regulatory and operational conditions for integrating them.
