In a context where Mexico is redefining its electricity market through new renewable energy and energy storage tenders, HyperStrong seeks to position itself as a key player in the region. The company, now among the top three globally in battery energy storage systems (BESS), is accelerating its expansion in Latin America with large-scale projects, commercial and industrial (C&I) solutions, and a growing project pipeline supported by local teams and strategic alliances.
Mexico is transforming its electricity sector by promoting renewable energy projects that incorporate energy storage as a requirement, with the goal of reaching approximately 16 GW of installed capacity and improving system reliability. This shift presents a strategic opportunity for technology companies seeking to establish themselves in the region's growing energy storage market.
In this context, Energía Estratégica spoke with Jay Liu, HyperStrong's Director for Latin America, who detailed how the company plans to capitalize on this transformation with a strategy focused on Mexico, without losing sight of other key markets in Latin America.
What does Mexico currently represent within HyperStrong's regional strategy?

Mexico is currently one of the most important markets in Latin America, primarily due to regulatory changes that are driving renewable energy projects with integrated battery storage. The requirement for BESS systems in at least 30% of projects creates a significant opportunity for the entire industry, with a growth horizon of at least five years. For HyperStrong, this is not just about regulation, but about contributing our global track record of zero security incidents across more than 400 projects, which is precisely what a market creating new rules needs: reliability that can be trusted.
How does this opportunity translate into concrete projects?
In the commercial and industrial segment, growth is very rapid. Every week, new requests arise from regions such as Monterrey, Puebla, Mérida, Cancún, and Los Cabos. The demand comes from hotels, hospitals, and factories seeking reliable backup power solutions. HyperStrong has already signed contracts totaling 45 MWh in this segment in Mexico.
Our primary focus going forward is providing energy storage solutions for the utilities sector, where projects are larger and require more robust solutions. Our flagship product, HyperBlock M, for example, offers over 10,000 cycles at 70% capacity and up to 20 years of lifespan—the long-term certainty that investors in large-scale infrastructure need.
Can this growth in the commercial and industrial sector be scaled up to large-scale infrastructure in the short term?
Yes, because the development of energy storage depends not only on regulation but also on operational needs. Many industries need to guarantee their electricity supply, which drives its adoption even without direct incentives. Furthermore, in larger-scale projects, our deployment capacity is significant. Globally, we have connected more than 50 GWh across over 400 projects, including a 7.4 GWh complex connected to the grid in Inner Mongolia in just five months. This ability to execute projects, even under adverse weather conditions and tight deadlines, is precisely what we can bring to infrastructure projects in Latin America.
Besides Mexico, what markets do you prioritize in the region?
Chile is a very important, albeit highly competitive, market. Our strategy is to partner with developers and independent power producers (IPPs) and establish a local team of engineers capable of implementing and maintaining the projects for which we bid. Being a BloombergNEF Tier 1 supplier and having an AA credit rating from PV Tech Research, along with our global track record, gives us the necessary credibility to forge these partnerships.
Brazil is also a key market. HyperStrong has a strong team on the ground, already collaborating with local developers to prepare for the upcoming state auctions. While the auctions have been delayed, the market remains active, and we continue to submit bids pending award.
Opportunities have also been identified in countries such as Ecuador, Peru, and Colombia, as well as in Central America, including Honduras and Guatemala. In the Caribbean, particularly in the Dominican Republic, there are battery storage projects exceeding 1 GWh, where HyperStrong is already seeking to establish a presence.
What specific projects has the company developed in Latin America?
Our first large-scale project was launched in Mexico three years ago, with a capacity of 24 MWh. Subsequently, we launched a 6 MWh project in Chile. We are currently analyzing projects in other Latin American markets and expect to announce them soon. All of these local efforts are supported by our regional hub in Houston and a robust supply chain, ensuring the availability and resilience of our products for customers throughout Latin America.
What is HyperStrong's global position?
The company has a strong presence in China, where it ranks first in cumulative installed capacity. Globally, we are among the top three battery energy storage system (BESS) integrators by installed capacity in 2024, according to S&P Global Energy. We are also listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange's STAR Market (since January 2025), which underscores our ability to expand internationally.
After 15 years of a strong presence in the BESS sector, HyperStrong has the capability, experience, and teams necessary to execute large-scale projects. Our global track record encompasses over 50 GWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) deployed across five continents and more than 20 countries. As a company that has proven its capabilities in extreme weather conditions, remote locations, and tight deadlines, HyperStrong is the ideal partner for deploying next-generation BESS systems and collaborating with local utilities, independent power producers (IPPs), and developers.
How does HyperStrong operate within the storage value chain?
We primarily act as systems integrators, managing the procurement of battery cells and electronic components, as well as the design, assembly, and manufacturing of both DC and AC solutions. In some cases, we integrate complete systems, incorporating power conversion systems (PCS), transformers, and other third-party equipment, allowing us to offer tailored solutions for each project. With five smart manufacturing facilities and an annual production capacity of over 70 GWh, we can support large-scale deployments across Latin America without compromising delivery times.
In an increasingly competitive market, where does the technological advantage lie?
One of our primary focuses is component quality, working with the world's leading cell manufacturers. Furthermore, HyperStrong has its own CSA/CMA-certified testing laboratories where we analyze cell behavior to ensure system safety and performance. This is critical, as the battery cell is one of the most important components of a battery energy storage system (BESS). Our AI platform provides overheating alerts up to seven days in advance, and our global fleet has maintained a flawless record of zero safety incidents across more than 55 million cells tested. This is not just an advantage; it's a promise to our customers in Latin America.
What types of solutions do they currently offer?
HyperStrong boasts a broad portfolio of solutions, ranging from commercial and industrial solutions (HyperCubeC&I series) to large-scale projects. Among our most advanced developments is the HyperBlock III liquid-cooled container (5 MWh), which is UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA 855, and fully seismic certified. It is one of the most cost-effective solutions on the market, with over 20 GWh installed worldwide. We also offer our flagship product, HyperBlock M, a patented, next-generation battery energy storage system (BESS) that achieves full-cycle efficiencies of ≥94% (2 h) and ≥96% (4 h).
How does innovation influence the implementation of projects in the region?
One of the most significant developments for Latin America is our 10-foot container format, which reduces weight and size compared to the standard 20-foot format. Weighing only 24 tons, it facilitates logistics and transportation in markets with infrastructure limitations, whether by sea, land, or rail. This improves project implementation efficiency and reduces civil works costs, making large-scale storage more accessible throughout the region.
What is your company's message to Latin American market players interested in energy storage partnerships?
HyperStrong's message is simple: we're here to stay. We combine global market leadership (among the top three), a strong local presence in the Americas, and flexible, long-term service agreements (5 to 20 years) with performance guarantees. We invite developers, independent power producers, utilities, and industrial customers to partner with a company that has a perfect safety record across 55 million cells, boasts excellent creditworthiness, and has proven its ability to deliver GWh-scale projects on time, from the Mongolian desert to the Argentine Pampas. Let's build Latin America's energy future together, safely and reliably.
