Iberdrola is expanding its energy storage investments into the United States market with the construction of its first battery storage facility in the country. The Shutler project, located in Gilliam County, Oregon, has an installed capacity of 41 megawatts (MW) and a storage capacity of 82 megawatt-hours (MWh).
Shutler will help strengthen the stability of the electricity grid in the northwest of the country, along the Pacific coast , where Avangrid—the Group's US subsidiary—already has 3,000 MW of generation capacity. The project is part of Iberdrola's strategy to incorporate solutions that facilitate the integration of renewable energy and improve the resilience of the system in a context of growing electricity demand.
The project will allow energy to be stored during periods of low consumption or high renewable production and released when needed, optimizing the energy system and promoting a balance between supply and demand in real time. This type of infrastructure is becoming increasingly important in a context of growing electrification.
The project, which is scheduled to become operational in 2027 , will be located next to other Avangrid renewable energy facilities already in operation or under development in the area.

It will also modernize New York's electrical grid
New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) , distributor for Avangrid, a subsidiary of the Iberdrola Group in the United States , has completed major improvements to nearly 13 miles of transmission lines in Allegany and Steuben counties in New York State.
The project, known as Line 932, was completed three months ahead of schedule and under budget, resulting in savings of over $2 million for customers. It was also the first project completed under NYSEG's Powering New York program, an initiative aimed at increasing grid reliability and capacity and supporting the state's energy goals.
The project strengthens the reliability and resilience of the local power grid by replacing 58 aging structures along 12.8 miles of route. These improvements will also allow progress to be made on the installation of a power flow control device near the Bennett substation in Hornell, with the aim of regulating voltage more efficiently and increasing the transmission system's capacity.
