Grenergy has inaugurated its Elena project in Chile, the largest battery plant in America, which has 3.5 GWh of storage already commissioned.
It is Grenergy's most ambitious project to date, already comprising 624 containers and 6,240 batteries. Its construction mobilized more than 400 workers, boosting the local economy and strengthening ties with the community through educational and social initiatives in María Elena.
Furthermore, the company announced in its roadmap until 2028 its expansion to 7 GWh during the inauguration, which was attended by the President of Chile, José Antonio Kast Rist , as well as the Minister of Energy, Ximena Rincón ; the Minister of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation, Ximena Lincolao ; the Ambassador of Spain in Chile, Laura Oroz and the Mayor of María Elena, Viviana Cuello , among other authorities.
Elena is part of the Atacama Oasis platform, which integrates 2.5 GW of solar power and 14.1 GWh of storage. It is the origin of the hybridization model that Grenergy is replicating in central Chile with Oasis Central (1.4 GW of solar power and 5.1 GWh of storage) and exporting to Spain. Collectively, the OASIS platforms reach 5 GW of solar power and 22 GWh of storage.

Grenergy has been operating in Chile since 2012 and has established itself as one of the 3 largest international investors in the country, considering that the company has invested USD 2.8 billion in the country, its main market, and plans to add another USD 2 billion in the next two years, reaching a cumulative investment of USD 4.8 billion.
Elena, the beginning of the largest clean energy generation hub in the north of the country
From Elena, Grenergy is driving the largest energy hub in northern Chile. With 2.1 GW of solar power and 14 GWh of storage, this development delivers manageable energy 24/7, strengthens security of supply, and provides the flexibility the grid needs to integrate more renewables and cope with peak demand and extreme weather events.
"Today is a day we will not forget. Elena marks the beginning of an important energy hub for the country, providing the most competitive energy for industry and for Chileans, based on solar power and BESS, providing the security and flexibility that the system needs," celebrated Grenergy founder and CEO David Ruiz de Andrés via social media.
"It also represents a transformative boost for Chile's digital infrastructure through GR Data, our recently announced data center platform, positioning the country to attract several billion dollars in direct digital investment in the coming years," he added.
GR Data's first project will be Atacama Data, an AI training campus near Elena, which will start with 400 MW of IT capacity, scalable to 1 GW, and with a guaranteed connection in Kimal. It will allow for large-scale AI model training using renewable energy and without water consumption. This project is complemented by the Polpaico North Campus and Alto Jahuel South Campus cloud campuses, which together will contribute 600 MW of IT capacity along with the country's main connectivity nodes.
