The multinational JA Solar is strengthening its position in Latin America with a strategy focused on integrating high-efficiency solar modules and battery energy storage systems (BESS) . With the recent launch of JA Energy Storage , the company presents a tailored regional offering that aims to accelerate the execution of hybrid projects , eliminate bottlenecks, and meet the technical demands of key Latin American markets. Now we have a business in solar panels and storage systems.
This means we can transfer our knowledge to battery systems, bringing our expertise in large photovoltaic projects to the BESS segment, stated Víctor Soares , head of the LATAM Technical Team at JA Solar , during a prominent interview at the Future Energy Summit (FES) Chile. This evolution responds to a growing need in the region: to have integrated solutions that take into account the specific technical, regulatory, and climatic conditions of each country .
JA Solar works with leading global manufacturers to offer BESS systems with local support, tailored to the connectivity, control, and performance requirements of each market . The company already has 30 GWh of storage systems underway, primarily serving countries like Chile, Brazil, Colombia, and Argentina , where BESS systems are becoming increasingly integrated into energy planning.
JA Solar's goal is to achieve more interesting and effective projects , leveraging its prior knowledge in photovoltaic generation to now integrate it into energy storage. In this context, Soares highlighted that they continue to implement and improve TOPCon technology , along with specific solutions such as a front panel Scapa that is less vulnerable to dust and an anti-dust system designed to maximize performance in arid zones . Meanwhile, on the battery side, there are also market specificities related to temperature.

For BESS systems, specific design considerations must be taken into account, due to the types of certifications required for control, degradation, specific curves, and grid connection requirements, in order to achieve an optimized project, he explained. A strategic advantage for JA Solar in this process is its local presence in different countries in the region , which allows it to maintain technical, commercial, and logistical teams aligned with the specific demands of each market. “We have commercial, technical, logistics, and marketing teams in different markets to exchange information and see which product is best suited for each region ,” Soares stated.
This regional network enables continuous learning and better adaptation of products to local regulations and conditions. In this exchange of knowledge, Chile stands out as a benchmark for other countries in the region, given that the country already operates 1,850 MW of BESS (Bulk Energy Storage and Storage) capacity and is preparing to exceed 2 GW by January 2026. The growth of the BESS segment is even more remarkable when considering the portfolio of projects currently under development.
According to the trade association report, there are 456 MW (1658 MWh) in the testing stage, 6373 MW (27585 MWh) under construction and another 8431 MW (40987 MWh) in environmental assessment.
A comprehensive supplier in the energy transition. Headquartered in Shanghai and founded in 2005 , JA Solar has established itself as one of the most influential players in the global solar sector . It produces wafers, cells, modules, and photovoltaic plants, and in 2023 was recognized as the
The world's largest supplier of solar modules by volume , according to data from InfoLink and PV Tech . The company has already supplied
More than 300 GW of cumulative power worldwide. With the addition of BESS solutions, JA Solar takes another step in its transformation into a comprehensive renewable energy provider . The combination of high-efficiency solar modules with storage systems, along with technical support and regulatory compliance, allows us to present a
A solid value proposition for Latin American markets , aimed at boosting the energy transition with practical and adapted tools.
