Peru is positioning itself as one of the markets with the greatest potential and growth expectations for solar energy in Latin America, with more than 14 GW of projects in the permitting and construction phases. Within this context , JA Solar is consolidating its position as a key player, with a clear objective: to achieve between 25% and 30% market share this year, for both utility-scale and distributed generation. The company, which will be participating in the upcoming Future Energy Summit (FES) Peru, already has two major projects awarded . One is the 472 MW CSF Illa project in Arequipa, signed with Inver Renewable Management, which will be the largest in the country.
Furthermore, they signed an agreement for the 180 MW San José project, both marking a milestone for their market position. "In terms of already assigned projects, we are the brand with the largest number of megawatts committed in the country's history ," stated Cristhian Romero , Sales Manager for JA Solar in Peru, Ecuador, and Bolivia. He noted that these agreements will allow them to "successfully exceed" their market share target and leverage other projects in the region. "The pipeline of projects we anticipate in the country is approximately 800 MW annually until at least 2027, while from 2028 onward, it will depend on the regulatory landscape," Romero explained in an interview with Energía Estratégica.

Currently, JA Solar works with Grupo Sigelec , a local company with three decades of experience, and with Autosolar , a Spanish-owned company. "The idea is to work hand in hand with these distributors and, through them, reach end users ," explained the company representative. JA Solar aims to capture 30% of the distributed generation segment this year, equivalent to 25 megawatts , considering an estimated total of between 80 and 100 megawatts in new projects for 2025 in this segment.
The focus is on high-potential productive sectors, especially agriculture : "It's a segment we're looking at with considerable interest, not only for its economic impact but also its social impact . The distributed generation market is generating expectations in the Peruvian renewable energy sector, since, although there are no regulations yet in place, developments are expected this year. Industries have been developing interesting projects, and there are expectations that this year, and it will surely be mentioned at FES, we will have approved regulations."

This will lead to a faster pace of development of new installations, given the additional income they will receive beyond the benefit of self-consumption,” the executive explained. Within this framework, JA Solar will supply modules for the largest self-consumption photovoltaic system in the country's agribusiness sector , with a capacity exceeding 6 megawatts , to be installed by Insoelec Solar SAC. Romero pointed out that the foundation of this expansion lies in their local technical presence , a competitive advantage he emphasized, which allows them to support projects from development to after-sales service: “Our goal is not simply to sell a module and end the sale, but to establish a long-term relationship ,” he stressed. He also affirmed that they are currently prioritizing modules with TOPCon cell technology, which offers high efficiency and proven performance in diverse climates: “This technology has already been successfully tested in every region of Peru, and we estimate it will remain relevant for the next four years ,” he noted. The regulatory environment is driving the renewable energy sector's projections.
Law No. 28832 , recently updated by Law No. 32249, represents a turning point. "This new law is promoting the use of renewable energy and will generate a flow of projects and significant investment in the coming years ," the executive stated. Regarding price trends, Romero was emphatic: "Prices have been decreasing considerably over the last two or three years , which has boosted project implementation."
While there are signs of a possible increase in raw material costs and subsidy reductions in China, Romero believes that the expansion of the Peruvian market will not be affected , thanks to the favorable regulatory framework, legal stability, and growing investor interest. Regarding his participation in FES Peru , the event that will bring together the main players in the sector, he stated: " We are pleased that it is being held in the country for the first time. It is a space to build and share experiences with local companies and those from other countries such as Chile, Brazil, and Colombia." He anticipated that the main topics for discussion will be the new Law 32249 , the regulations for distributed generation , and the preparation of electrical grids to integrate new projects. "Our focus will be on showcasing the efficiency and success stories of our technology in countries that have been using photovoltaic systems for many more years ," Romero concluded.
