Argentina could far exceed the forecasts that until recently seemed ambitious for storage, so Sungrow, one of the leading global manufacturers in the segment, considers that a projection of 6 GWh towards 2030 no longer represents a demanding scenario and should now be read as a market floor.
“Some time ago I reached a figure of 3 GWh in the conservative scenario and 6 GWh in the aggressive scenario until 2030. But that was surpassed a long time ago and now the figure of 6 GWh is conservative,” said Luiz Fernando Biagini , Head of Sales Southern Cone of Sungrow, during a prominent interview within the framework of FES Argentina.
“The market knows it’s not such a mature technology, but it will surely become a technology like the investors, who all already know how it works and what the learning curve was like,” he added.
The redefinition comes amid a boom in the local market, with the AlmaGBA tenders (713 MW awarded) and the current AlmaSADI tender (700 MW at stake - expandable to 770 MW) as the main drivers for medium and large-scale stand-alone BESS projects in the system.

This process has sparked unprecedented interest among developers, integrators, and technology providers. In fact, for the current call for proposals, the sector anticipates a number of bids that could quadruple the total amount available.
Sungrow is already feeling this shift. The company is analyzing more than 55 business opportunities related to the process , reinforcing the perception that Argentina has definitively entered a new phase for storage.
The change also alters the manufacturer's regional strategy. For years, Argentina was left out of the company's commercial focus, while other markets offered better conditions for validating the technology.

“At that time, Chile had the expectation of being a laboratory for Latin America, many years ago, with more prospects than Argentina. So our approach was to focus first on the laboratory and then replicate that know-how in other countries,” explains Biagini.
“Now the scenario is different. That moment has arrived, and we are fully committed in Argentina . The country is at a higher level than it was a few years ago; now it sells energy more strategically. Storing energy and selling it strategically—that is the key to Argentina's success in the coming years,” he emphasized.
This reasoning comes in a context where AlmaSADI's timeline remains tight. Following an extension requested by bidders, the deadline for submitting technical proposals was moved to May 27 , the opening of financial bids to June 24 , and the awarding of the contract to July 8. Even so, the target date for the start of commercial operations in January 2027 remains, despite private sector concerns about the execution timeline.
Full integration as a competitive strategy
As the market grows, Sungrow is seeking to position itself with a fully vertically integrated offering. The strategy aims to reduce technical incompatibilities and avoid disputes between different suppliers on long-term projects.
That approach will gain a new component this year, as the firm's Head of Sales Southern Cone revealed that the novelty for this year is that "Sungrow will have labeling on its cells."
Added to this is the recently launched PowerTitan 3 , a solution designed for utility scale applications that, in its 20-foot configuration, integrates a 1.72 MW PCS with 6.9 MWh batteries, enabling a 4-hour system where a single block reaches 6.9 MW/27.6 MWh.
“Another advantage is that we use a different technology that has far fewer losses and requires far fewer auxiliary services,” he added.
