Huasun Energy wants to gain ground in a segment that is becoming increasingly strategic for solar manufacturers: distributed generation.
The Chinese company, specializing in heterojunction technology (HJT), announced an alliance with Hebei Saihang New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. , a firm from northern China with experience in residential, commercial and industrial solutions, to create a joint venture focused on the distributed photovoltaic market .
The agreement was signed on April 30 and announced by Huasun on May 26. The new company will be controlled by Saihang, while Huasun will participate as a minority shareholder. The goal is to integrate brands, technologies, sales channels, and business models to develop solutions tailored to various self-consumption scenarios, solar rooftops, and smaller-scale projects.
The news not only reveals a corporate move in China, but also reflects a broader trend: photovoltaic manufacturers are looking to capture value beyond large-scale utility-scale projects. In a global market characterized by intense competition, industrial overcapacity, and price pressure, residential, commercial, and industrial applications are emerging as key segments for building closer relationships with end customers, diversifying distribution channels, and improving margins.

The goal: to bring HJT to the end user
Huasun presents the alliance as a way to expand the application range of its HJT modules. Until now, the company's technology has been more associated with large ground-mounted plants, where efficiency, low degradation, and bankability are key variables for developers and investors.
With Saihang, the company seeks to enter more strongly into distributed applications: homes, businesses, industries, solar roofs, self-consumption projects and solutions closer to real electricity consumption.
Saihang brings knowledge of the end-user market, especially in northern China, and experience in full-cycle services: development, surveying, integrated construction, operation, and maintenance. This extensive reach is key because distributed generation isn't achieved with just a good module. It requires installers, inventory, logistics, technical support, warranties, packaged solutions, and sales channels close to the customer.
That is the strategic point of the agreement: Huasun adds technology and product; Saihang brings proximity to the distributed market.
A company in expansion: 20 GW of HJT capacity
Huasun presents itself as the world's largest integrated manufacturer of HJT products, with a supply chain encompassing ingots, wafers, cells, and modules. According to corporate information, the company has 20 GW of annual HJT production capacity , over 13 GW of cumulative shipments , and more than 2,500 employees worldwide.
The company, founded in 2020, grew rapidly within an industry dominated by much longer-established Chinese giants. Its differentiating strategy was to focus on HJT, an n-type technology that combines crystalline silicon with thin layers of amorphous silicon to improve efficiency, degradation, and thermal performance.
In addition, Huasun is listed as a Tier 1 manufacturer by BloombergNEF and is also referenced as a Top Performer by PVEL in sector materials.
The Tier 1 designation is relevant to the market, although it's important to clarify: it's not a technical quality certification for the module, but rather a bankability indicator linked to the manufacturer's participation in funded projects. For developers, EPC contractors, and funds, this classification often serves as a signal of access to financing and acceptance in large projects.
