Nextpower founder and CEO Daniel Shugar used the presentation of the company's record results to outline a strategic vision for the company's future: a much more integrated energy platform focused not only on solar trackers, but also on inverters, energy storage, power electronics, and solutions for large electrical loads.
The company, formerly known as Nextracker , closed its 2016 fiscal year with revenues of USD 3.56 billion and confirmed that it has already surpassed 25 GW sold in Latin America . But while the market followed the financial figures, Shugar chose to focus on another issue: Nextpower 's next step.
“We are accelerating our inverter and power conditioning business,” the executive wrote on LinkedIn when announcing a definitive agreement to acquire complementary assets from Zigor Corporation’s power conversion business and its U.S. subsidiary Apex Power Conversion.
More than a technical announcement, the message hinted at a change of scale in the company's vision.

According to Shugar, customers are demanding "reliable and high-quality" power conversion solutions that can be more closely integrated with solar plants and energy storage systems.
The operation aims precisely to strengthen that integration. The incorporated technology includes modular solutions for utility-scale projects, applications designed for 1500V and 2000V architectures, as well as configurable systems for large-scale projects and data center applications.
But the CEO particularly emphasized another point: the idea of transforming NextPower into a broader technology platform.
“It’s not just about launching another line of investors. It’s about building a more complete and integrated energy technology platform,” he stated.
That concept appears repeatedly throughout his message. Shugar talks about combining:
- Trackers,
- Power electronics,
- Software,
- Storage,
- Digital intelligence
All of this within the same technological structure capable of optimizing performance, simplifying procurement, and accelerating deployments.

The CEO also directly linked this expansion to the growth in global electricity demand driven by artificial intelligence, electrification, and data centers.
“As electricity demand accelerates, resilient and smart power conversion will become increasingly critical for the grid,” he said.
Another relevant fact is that the company is already evaluating scaling up inverter manufacturing in the United States starting in 2027, a sign that shows how NextPower is also seeking to position itself within the new stage of industrial relocation and expansion of critical energy infrastructure.
Latin America also stands out as one of the markets where the company has already achieved significant scale. The more than 25 GW sold in the region solidify NextPower's presence in markets such as Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Colombia, and Peru, in a context where utility scale and storage are increasingly converging.
Although the strategic message dominated much of the announcement, the financial results also showed a record year for the company. In addition to US$3.56 billion in annual revenue, NextPower reported a backlog exceeding US$5.25 billion and more than 160 GW of trackers shipped globally.
In the last fiscal quarter, the company recorded revenues of US$881 million and a gross margin of 33.8%, while adjusted EBITDA reached US$202 million.
However, beyond the numbers, Daniel Shugar's message offered another interpretation: NextPower seems to be preparing for a new stage where solar trackers will become part of a much broader and more integrated energy proposal.
FES's next stops
The Future Energy Summit tour will continue with FES Guatemala on May 14 and FES Mexico on May 19 , where key players from the public and private sectors will address the challenges and opportunities linked to the expansion of the energy system, new investment schemes and the execution of strategic projects.
