Oracle exited to the market to seek 2 GW of new renewable capacity in New Mexico to meet the electricity demand of Project Jupiter , one of its main data center infrastructure developments in the United States .
The company launched a request for proposals aimed at developers with projects located in the state and opened the call to various technologies, including solar, wind, geothermal and other renewable sources .
The selected assets must become operational between 2027 and 2031 , although Oracle indicated that it will prioritize projects capable of starting to deliver energy in shorter timeframes.
The assessment will take into account the proposed capacity, growth potential, delivery schedule, maturity of each initiative, its technical feasibility, and its alignment with the company's long-term energy commitments.

The goal is to support Project Jupiter 's commitment to achieving 100% carbon-free energy offsetting by 2031.
“ This request for proposals focuses on identifying projects that can generate entirely new renewable energy in New Mexico ,” said Mahesh Thiagarajan, executive vice president of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
The call for tenders was published on September 8, 2026 , and is part of a broader trend among large technology companies, which are increasing their purchases of renewable energy generation to support the growing demand for their data centers.
In the case of Oracle, the new capacity will be directly linked to Project Jupiter, currently under construction in New Mexico.
The company did not specify the investment volume associated with the 2 GW nor did it yet define which technological combination will be selected within the call for proposals.
The AI race is also moving into the electricity market
Oracle's move brings back to the forefront one of the main challenges facing the expansion of artificial intelligence: ensuring sufficient electricity generation to support the growth of large data centers.
The call seeks to add new renewable capacity , and not just contract existing generation, reinforcing the relationship between digital expansion and the need to incorporate new assets into the system.
Oracle also intends to prioritize projects that can quickly become operational, an increasingly important factor given the growing demand for these facilities.
Project Jupiter is part of the infrastructure expansion associated with Stargate and is located in New Mexico, where the company projects a strong long-term economic impact.
At the same time, the development has faced local challenges mainly related to water use, noise, and energy supply, in a context of increasing scrutiny of the effects of large data centers on the communities where they are located.
