Peru and its European partners have launched a new, expanded initiative to accelerate investment in clean energy and electrical infrastructure, with special attention to strengthening the country's energy system and advancing interconnection in the SINEA region (which includes Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru).
The initiative “Promoting European Energy Investments in Peru and SINEA” brings together the Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines ( MINEM ), GET.invest , and its sister program GET.transform . This initiative, funded by the European Union and Germany, will run until June 2028 within the framework of the EU's Global Gateway strategy. Its implementation is being carried out by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) through GET.pro , the European multi-donor platform that hosts GET.invest and GET.transform.
For GET.invest, the new funding window (established in April 2026) will focus on developing an investment portfolio aligned with the Global Gateway and supporting bankable projects in renewable energy, transmission, storage, and interconnection. By providing tailored advice, market intelligence, and connecting European and local investors, developers, and financiers, this initiative will help transform Peru's clean energy potential into concrete opportunities. Meanwhile, GET.transform, already operating in Peru since 2021, will continue supporting the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) in energy planning and the electricity system operator COES in the integration of renewable energy.
“ The energy transition opens up a wide range of opportunities for generation, transmission, and storage projects ,” highlighted the Minister of Energy and Mines of Peru, Guillermo Shinno Huamaní . “ We want European companies to find in Peru a reliable partner with clear rules, a solid institutional framework, and a long-term vision for energy development .”

The event in Lima highlighted the conditions that private companies consider essential for investment: adequate transmission capacity, supporting infrastructure, predictable regulation, and more efficient procedures.

The complementary support from GET.invest and GET.transform will help to promote financially viable frameworks and projects. By helping to address the challenges of project development and finance, GET.invest will contribute to improving investment readiness and creating the conditions for greater private sector participation in Peru's electricity and clean energy infrastructure.
As Pelayo Castro, Director for the Americas of the European External Action Service (EEAS), emphasized, “ Peru occupies a unique position to advance Andean electrical integration, which is why today it is possible to think about progressively building a truly regional energy space .”
Underlining the strength of cross-border collaboration and the strengthening of ties between Peru and the EU, Sabine Bloch, Germany's ambassador to Peru , stated: “ Together, cooperation goes beyond aid. It becomes investment, innovation, and mutual benefit .”
Katja Kammerer, GIZ Resident Director for the Southern Cone in Argentina, Chile, and Peru , further explained: “ The combination of GET.transform and GET.invest seeks to close two gaps: between a public priority and a working procedure, and between an opportunity and a project ready to obtain financing.”
This initiative reflects the shared ambition of both programs to convert Peru's renewable energy potential into concrete investments in generation, transmission, and storage, while building a more reliable, sustainable, and interconnected energy system.
