Increased concern about climate change, coupled with evolving global energy policies and lower production costs supported by technology, are some of the factors continuing to drive renewable energy worldwide, a trend expected to continue in 2023. ZGR Mexico , a company specializing in the development of solutions for comprehensive electricity management, is confident in the current expansion of renewable energy in Mexico and Latin America, driven by the demand for clean energy and investment opportunities in some countries of the region.
In 2023, the industry is expected to continue growing, due to this demand for renewable energy, mainly solar energy, as it is one of the most accessible energy sources for generating electricity.
Data from the International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates that global renewable energy capacity will grow by 2,400 gigawatts (GW) during the period 2022-2027.
Similarly, it is estimated that the vast majority of global renewable capacity additions in 2027 will be provided by solar photovoltaic and wind power.
Globally, it is estimated that $366 billion was invested in renewable energy during 2021.
"One of the reasons why renewable energies will maintain their growth in Mexico is due to the use of technological advances that contribute to making energies like solar more competitive because of the strong solar resource. Let's remember that, according to the Mexican Solar Energy Association, more than 80% of the territory in the country is optimal for developing solar projects," says Iñigo Segura , CEO of ZGR Mexico.
The adoption of solar photovoltaic energy remained strong in Latin America, and Mexico ranked among the top four countries in installed capacity with 1.8 GW.
To achieve the continuity and growth of photovoltaic solar energy, it is essential to rely on storage technologies that, thanks to their operational characteristics, offer versatility and flexibility to the systems; because they allow excess energy to be stored and discharged when required, whether due to excessive demand or low generation.
ZGR's experience in developing energy storage systems and participating in photovoltaic energy projects allows it to recognize that innovations in these types of systems will contribute to maintaining low costs in the production of electricity through renewables such as solar, in addition to improving the quality of electricity supply and optimizing the use of available energy.
Recently in Mexico, the authorities have adopted a greater commitment to clean energy and the use of solar and wind power, pledging to cut emissions of polluting gases by 35% and double the generation of renewable energy by 2030.
Furthermore, more and more companies in the country are committing to integrating clean energy solutions into their operations to meet their emissions reduction targets, and storage technologies can be attractive for the energy needs of all types of industries, mainly those related to production, so their adoption may continue to grow in 2023.
In this sense, companies will continue to play an important role in driving the path towards cleaner energy, and therefore supporting renewable energy.
"Those of us in the energy sector have the opportunity to build better opportunities and provide solutions for industries, primarily for the benefit of the environment."
At ZGR we have great capacity and experience in both photovoltaic generation and grid storage, therefore we understand the potential of energy storage to accelerate the growth of renewable energies.
"Our priority is to be a strategic partner that provides solutions that ensure the reliability of the grid and facilitate the integration of renewable energies," Segura adds.
Encouraging private investment in the sector will help further develop renewables, as well as generate new jobs and benefit the economy. References: Renewables 2022.
