The EDES-LP-NGR-01-2025 International Public Tender, intended to award 600 MW of renewable generation with battery storage (BESS), received proposals totaling 1546 MWp and 1294.57 MWn , consolidating a level of competition that multiplies almost three times the tendered capacity.
The nominal power presented exceeds the disputed volume by more than 115%, which anticipates a highly selective process where the storage component will be decisive for the technical and economic evaluation.
The design of the scheme that requires BESS integration aims to incorporate manageable renewable capacity, reinforcing the stability of the Dominican electrical system and reducing exposure to generation variability.
The Northern Region leads the competition with 855.39 MWp and 779.7 MWn distributed across eleven projects , equivalent to 56% of the total nominal capacity offered.

The largest project presented is Dicayagua Solar Park , with 180 MWp and 145 MWn.
In that same region are located the Dominicana Azul II Solar Park (124.2 MWp / 96.8 MWn), Taíno I Photovoltaic Park (101 MWp / 84.7 MWn), Ardavín Solar (101.6 MWp / 83.4 MWn), Dominicana Azul Solar Park (101.2 MWp / 82.9 MWn), Guayubín Solar II, Botoncillo Photovoltaic Park, Payita 2 Photovoltaic Solar Plant, Solsur Photovoltaic Solar Plant and the only wind project on the list, Esperanza Wind Park (60 MWp / 48.3 MWn).
The Eastern Region adds 362.1 MWp and 260.4 MWn in four initiatives , led by the Mella Solar Project 1 Photovoltaic Installation (143.9 MWp / 99 MWn), while the Southern Region contributes 200 MWp and 166.6 MWn in three projects , completing the competitive map.
The difference between 1546 MWp and 1294.57 MWn is due to the usual oversizing in utility-scale solar projects, a strategy that optimizes the capacity factor and allows the use of storage to manage surpluses and smooth the injection into the grid.
This process is part of a broader roadmap for the country: the Dominican Republic plans to reach almost 2 GW of installed solar capacity by 2027 , while in 2025 it already has 2700 MW of renewables in operation distributed across 80 projects including solar, wind and other clean technologies.
In that context, the awarding of the 600 MW with BESS would not only expand capacity, but would also consolidate a qualitative leap by incorporating utility-scale storage, reinforcing the transition from pure renewable expansion to manageable renewables.

The process is moving towards its decisive phase, beginning the qualitative evaluation stage of the submitted projects.
During this period, aspects related to technological configuration, BESS integration, connection feasibility, and compliance with regulatory requirements will be analyzed.
Once that stage is completed, the opening of economic offers will take place on April 7 , a step that will mark the beginning of the financial evaluation and eventual auction mechanism.
The economic evaluation will take place during April and the publication of the award is scheduled between April 27 and May 5 , while the signing of contracts is projected for May 22 .
