The Mining and Energy Planning Unit (UPME), as of February 12 of this year, registered a total of 264 energy projects in effect, with approved concept and connection.
The initiatives add up to a capacity of 9,792.92 MW.
Of that total, 79 are hydroelectric projects, for 1,793.79 MW.
These projects, which are traditionally built and operated in Colombia (almost 70 percent of the country's energy matrix comes from hydroelectricity), are being dethroned by solar power.
They outnumber them by more than 3 times.
The UPME registry indicates that there are 122 photovoltaic projects with approved concept and viability at the connection point, for 5,956.97 MW.
The largest of these, due to its size, is called Sebastosol.
It has 700 MW of power and is the largest project currently approved in Colombia.
It surpasses the Termopalmero thermoelectric power plant, with a capacity of 650 MW.
Sebastosol is located in the department of Santander and has been approved to be connected to the Primavera 500 kV substation.
According to the project details, the promoting company is Minesa SA
Regarding wind energy projects, the register highlights 4 initiatives, totaling 219.9 MW.
Among them is the Guajira I project.
The power for the park approved by UPME is 32 MW.
But the venture is divided into two projects. 20 MW are owned by Isagen and Enecnor.
As announced, Vestas has an order for ten V100-2.0 MW turbines, as well as an Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service contract for the operation and maintenance of the wind farm for the next 12 years.
The remaining 12 MW correspond to the WESP 01 wind farm, owned by Jouktai Gen.
On the other hand, 7 biomass projects, for 69.01 MW, and 30 projects for self-generation and cogeneration, for 268.91 MW, can be highlighted.
Finally, thermoelectric plants can be mentioned.
The UPME register mentions 22, for 1,484.34 MW.
Indeed, only 15 percent of the power with approved concept and viability at the point of connection comes from fossil fuels.
The remaining 85 percent is explained by renewable energy source initiatives.
