Ricardo Palacios joins Sungrow as Key Account Manager for Central America and the Caribbean , as part of the company's regional expansion and the recent addition of Victoria Sandoval for the Mexican market .
Palacios himself confirmed his arrival at the company during the Future Energy Summit (FES) Caribbean , where he detailed that he has already been in his role as Key Account Manager for Central America and the Caribbean for more than a month and a half, after a nine-year career in the renewable energy industry.
“I will focus on utility scale for both photovoltaic inverters and battery storage. The distributed generation portion will be handled by our distributors,” he stated in an interview with Energía Estratégica.
The executive began his career in the photovoltaic sector in 2017, a time he identifies as the start of a period of strong expansion for the industry. Based on that experience, he drew a parallel between the evolution of the market and his new professional challenge.

“I feel that the growth of the solar market in general was very strong starting in 2017, in a more aggressive way. So much so that manufacturers were growing at a faster pace than before. Today, the role I assume as Key Account Manager begins at a very similar point to that moment, and we seek to take that additional step, to move in the right direction to continue driving the growth of the sector,” he explained.
His personal goal is focused on seeking the greatest learning and growth and capitalizing on the experience accumulated in the region to support this new stage of expansion, contributing market knowledge, closeness with clients and execution capacity in an increasingly competitive environment.
This movement occurs within a context of strong dynamism in Central America and the Caribbean, where various countries are advancing with tenders that combine renewable generation and storage.

For instance, the government of the Dominican Republic is working on new calls for proposals to incorporate BESS systems into existing projects, following recent processes that demonstrate market interest in this type of solution.
Meanwhile, Guatemala has already awarded its open tender 1-2025, where renewable energy far outperformed other technologies, solidifying the leading role of clean energy sources in the expansion of the grid. This is complemented by initiatives in other markets such as Honduras , which is seeking to move forward with a large-scale tender in an increasingly competitive and demanding environment in terms of bankability.
Within this scenario, Palacios identified Guatemala and the Dominican Republic as priority countries in the short term, while also highlighting opportunities in Panama, Jamaica, Nicaragua and El Salvador, where project development continues to gain traction.
“ The region has always experienced high growth. These are countries that are undergoing renewable expansion, both in photovoltaics and in energy storage ,” the specialist mentioned.
This means that the acquisition is part of a broader expansion strategy for Sungrow in Latin America , where the company already has a presence in more than 10 countries and a consolidated logistics infrastructure.
In parallel, the firm is accelerating its positioning in energy storage, with a pipeline exceeding 10 GWh in the region and the development of solutions such as PowerTitan 3 , with which it seeks to scale its participation in the BESS segment.
Looking ahead to the rest of the year, the executive defined 2026 as a turning point marked by " changes ," both on a personal level and in the evolution of the sector, characterized by greater market maturity and the consolidation of new business opportunities.
