Gonvarri Solar Steel , a global company specializing in the design and supply of solar trackers and fixed structures for photovoltaic projects, will supply its TracSmarT+1P solar trackers for a new 389 MWp photovoltaic project to be developed in the Atacama Desert, in the Chilean region of Antofagasta.
Installation work will begin later this year and continue through the first half of 2027. The project will incorporate the company's latest generation of solar trackers, designed to meet the operational requirements of large-scale photovoltaic plants and adapt to the evolving needs of the energy market.
With this award, Solar Steel reaches nearly 3 GW of supplied capacity in Chile, one of the most important markets for solar energy in Latin America. Over the past few years, the company has maintained a leading position in the country, supported by strong commercial activity, local execution capabilities, and a significant market share in the solar tracker segment over the last three years.
The project incorporates battery energy storage (BESS), a configuration that is rapidly gaining traction in Chile and throughout Latin America. The combination of photovoltaic generation and storage has become a key trend in the sector, driven by the need to optimize energy management, increase the operational flexibility of power plants, and improve the integration of renewable generation into the grid.

This scenario aligns with the recent evolution of Solar Steel's technology portfolio. Just a few days ago, the company announced independent certification via Enertis for its solar trackers for hybrid applications with BESS systems, in both AC and DC configurations—a capability increasingly in demand by developers and investors seeking to maximize the value of their energy assets.
This trend is not limited to Latin America. Hybrid solar + storage projects are gaining prominence in markets worldwide and already form part of a growing portion of the European renewable energy pipeline. Storage is emerging as one of the key elements for the next phase of growth in large-scale solar energy.
From its offices in the region, Solar Steel provides commercial, technical, and maintenance support to clients throughout the country, in addition to serving as an operations center for other markets in the Southern Cone and Peru. The awarding of this new project reinforces the company's presence in a region that continues to lead the adoption of renewable energy solutions and large-scale energy storage.
