Statkraft continues to expand its presence in Brazil. The Norwegian company confirmed its decision to invest in Gran Sul , a 280 MW onshore wind farm to be developed in the state of Rio Grande do Sul , reinforcing its growth strategy in Latin America's largest energy market.
The project will be located in the municipality of Santa Vitória do Palmar , one of the areas with the best wind resources in southern Brazil, and will contribute new renewable capacity to the national electricity system.
After completing the technical, environmental and regulatory development stages, the initiative will now enter its execution phase, with the start of construction scheduled for January 2027 .
"Brazil is a strategic market for Statkraft. Gran Sul fits perfectly with our growth strategy and with the development of a competitive renewable portfolio that combines hydroelectric, wind and solar generation," said Fernando de Lapuerta, Executive Vice President for International at Statkraft.

The investment confirms the role that Brazil plays within the company's global strategy.
Since its arrival in the country in 2008, Statkraft has consolidated one of the largest renewable energy platforms in the region and today considers the Brazilian market to be its second most important worldwide, only behind Norway.
Currently, the company operates more than 2,400 MW of installed capacity among hydroelectric, wind and solar projects, distributed in 16 hydroelectric plants, 33 wind farms and 12 solar plants , including assets in operation and under construction.
Following the acquisition of Enerfin in 2023, it also became one of the ten largest wind power generators in Brazil.
An increasingly diversified portfolio
With Gran Sul, Statkraft continues to strengthen a strategy based on complementarity between different renewable technologies.
According to the company, the combination of hydroelectric, solar and wind power allows for a more reliable and competitive supply, keeping pace with the growing demand for clean electricity in the country.
"Gran Sul represents an important step in our growth strategy in Brazil and reflects the confidence we have in the potential of the Brazilian market," said Thiago Tomazzoli, CEO of Statkraft Brazil.
The executive highlighted that the project will also contribute to regional development through job creation, the hiring of local suppliers, and new long-term investments.
The company's second largest market
Brazil has become a pillar for Statkraft's international expansion.
The company generates around 5.9 TWh annually in the country and maintains a strong presence in both renewable generation and energy trading.
Its largest wind power asset is the Santa Eugênia complex, in the state of Bahia, which adds up to 519 MW distributed in 14 wind farms and 91 wind turbines .
With the addition of Gran Sul, Statkraft continues to expand its portfolio in one of the markets where wind energy maintains the highest growth rate in Latin America and where the company seeks to consolidate an increasingly relevant position within the energy transition process.
