The Trelew Electric Cooperative announced the signing of an unprecedented agreement in the Wholesale Electricity Market (MEM), through which it contracted 100% of its power curve for a period of one year , starting on April 1, 2026.
This agreement means that, for the next 12 months, the Cooperative will stop acquiring power from CAMMESA , becoming the first distributor in the country to adopt this modality since the enactment of Law 24,065 , more than three decades ago.
The milestone was made possible thanks to the support of Energía del Sur SA, a generating company based in Comodoro Rivadavia, consolidating an innovative model that directly links energy supply and demand within the national electricity system.
In this context, the administrator of the Cooperative, Juan Manuel Alfonsín , highlighted the transformative nature of the measure: "What seemed like an unattainable goal was achieved, and these are the first steps of others that we will be announcing later.
He also emphasized the magnitude of the progress achieved, saying that "the Trelew Electric Cooperative is making history."
"This achievement positions Trelew and the province of Chubut as protagonists of a new energy scheme, marking a before and after in the functioning of the Argentine electricity market," the entity stated.
Alfonsín also highlighted the daily commitment to the community.
"At the Cooperative, we work every day to provide the best public service, and we are preparing to support the growth of the city and the arrival of new investments," he said.
"In Trelew you will find a serious, professional and competitive Cooperative, and above all, a strategic partner that will support every development project," he concluded.
This advance not only strengthens the local energy system, but also sets a national precedent, opening up new possibilities for efficient and autonomous energy management in the country.
