ABO Energy inaugurates its first green hydrogen project

ABO Energy has inaugurated its first green hydrogen production project in Germany.

This marks a milestone in the company's history and demonstrates its firm commitment to accelerating the energy transition through innovative solutions.

The pilot project, located in Hünfeld-Michelsrombach in central Germany, combines a wind turbine with a 5 MW electrolyser and a hydrogen refuelling station equipped with a tanker-truck filling system.

The plant is designed to produce up to 450 tonnes of green hydrogen per year and is among the country's first projects to produce certified green hydrogen.

"This project marks a milestone not only for our company but also for the energy transition," stated Dr Jochen Ahn, co-founder of ABO Energy.

"This plant is unique in Germany and among the first to produce certified green hydrogen.

Only green hydrogen will help us sustainably restructure the energy system and achieve our goal of climate neutrality by 2045.

Ahn also expressed gratitude for the commitment from numerous industrial partners, associations, and political representatives at regional and local levels.

This milestone is not an isolated event but part of a global strategy.

ABO Energy, active on four continents and operating in Spain since 2001, is progressing with the development of hydrogen-related solutions across various markets.

In Canada, the company, together with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, is driving the Toqlukuti"k Wind and Hydrogen projectone of the sector's most ambitious initiatives.

Located in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, this project aims to develop several gigawatts of onshore wind energy for the production of green hydrogen and ammonia, intended for both domestic use and global export.

ABO Energy"s international experience with hydrogen projects in Germany and Canada underpins the advancement of this technology in other markets, providing essential practical knowledge that transcends theoretical concepts.

In Spain, ABO Energy is currently developing its first hydrogen projects, all still in the greenfield stage, including one located in the province of Salamanca.

Although still in an early phase, the company holds high expectations for these projects" progression and possesses the expertise, experience, and backing necessary to contribute significantly to green hydrogen development in Spain.
