The latest call for proposals launched to boost 3.3 GW in renewables and 1.2 GW in batteries, awarded to private companies in Mexico, represents a turning point for the development of energy storage in the country.
For Quartux , this process not only opens up new market opportunities, but also strengthens "its financial muscle to expand in the Utility Scale segment.
"The call represents a great opportunity for the entire country."
"Today we're talking about Iberdrola, Gemex, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, among others; these are players involved in strategic projects that require 30% storage, and we're ready to support them," said Diego Rasilla González , Chief Revenue Officer of Quartux , in an interview with Energía Estratégica , referring to the projects that are expected to become operational between 2028 and 2029.
Given this scenario, Quartux projects a storage boom in Mexico that will begin to materialize between the middle of this year and the first half of 2027 .
"I see the first six months of 2026 as key to starting the detailed engineering, and then the construction and commissioning of the systems will begin," he anticipated.
Currently, Quartux dominates 85% of the national market share of the commercial and industrial storage segment with more than 300MWh installed and in operation; but it seeks to enter the utility scale and accompany the growth of the market.
With an investment capacity exceeding $ 1 billion , the company is ready to move forward without restrictions. Today we have no limitations.
“We can invest in and complement not only private companies, but also the state-owned company,” Rasilla emphasized, referring to the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) . “We have a large battery purchasing capacity, which allows us to offer more competitive prices and take control of the logistics ,” the executive explained.
Regarding prices, batteries have fallen by 15% in the last year , he noted, a trend they expect to maintain thanks to the volume of projects the company handles.
One of the keys will be for the private sector to share experience with regulators to improve the design of the regulatory framework.
The lack of economic recognition for the support that storage systems provide to networks is another critical point.
"This flexibility needs to have compensation for both the private sector and the electricity networks operated by CFE."
"In areas like the Yucatan Peninsula, storage could provide stability, come in when there is a blackout, and that has to be compensated," the executive emphasized.
Comparison with other markets is inevitable. Texas has already installed more than 6 GWh of storage , and California has tripled that figure, while in South America, Chile has made progress with clear regulations that send signals to the market.
Technology as an engine of scalability and future vision The operational heart of the company is its artificial intelligence-based software built in Mexico, which has accumulated more than one million hours of operation .This tool learns in real time about customer consumption patterns, network behavior, and energy demand. "This system will eventually be able to predict peak hours and anticipate network failures."
"It's so smart that it will be a leading tool in the industry," Rasilla stated.
In addition to its technological component, Quartux closed a strategic investment of 50 million dollars together with Ainda Energía e Infraestructura , aimed at boosting its participation in large-scale projects , such as those that make up the new wave of awarded renewable generation.
Quartux is committed to sustained growth in the short and medium term.
The team grew from 10 to over 140 people in just a few years , with plans to double the staff and investments annually.
In 2023 they invested USD 500 million , while for 2026 they project USD 1 billion , and in 2027 they aim to reach USD 2 billion . "Our goal is not only to be leaders in storage, but to become a reliable company in the Mexican and, eventually, Latin American energy market ," concludes Rasilla.
