Argentina is starting to position itself as one of the most attractive markets for battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Latin America.
The growing interest is largely driven by the AlmaSADI tender, a programme that is expected to award 700 MW of battery storage capacity in the coming months.
Danisa Butko, ESS Sales Manager for Latin America at Gotion, addressed this opportunity during Future Energy Summit (FES) Argentina, where she explained how the company is preparing for this type of procurement process.
SThis year, we will launch a new 7 MWh storage solution, which fits perfectly with tenders such as AlmaSADI.
At the same time, we are developing a 20 MWh solution that will generate significant savings in both CAPEX and project footprint," the executive said.
Beyond technology development, the company is strengthening its operational capabilities to support large-scale energy storage projects in the country.

SWe will also establish an O&M chain in Argentina to provide local support for projects.
In addition, we are installing a warehouse in the province of Buenos Aires to offer greater reliability and confidence to our clients," Butko added.
This strategy reflects Gotion"s broader regional expansion, as the company already has a presence in Chile, Brazil and Mexico, markets where energy storage is becoming increasingly important within energy planning and the integration of renewable energy.
The new technological developments are focused on increasing the energy capacity of storage systems, a trend already visible across the global BESS market.
Higher-capacity systems allow developers to optimise project design and reduce infrastructure-related costs.
While storage technology continues to evolve, the sector also faces challenges linked to the dynamics of critical minerals, particularly lithium, a key input for battery manufacturing.
According to Butko, two major developments could influence battery prices this year.
"This year, there are two important changes affecting batteries: lithium price fluctuations and changes in China"s tax refund policy, she explained.
China"s fiscal scheme will undergo adjustments that could also impact the final cost of battery systems.
SThe tax refund will decrease from 9% to 6%, and it will be completely eliminated by 2027, which will ultimately lead to higher battery prices," she noted.
This evolving landscape is pushing manufacturers and project developers to optimise both technology design and business models in order to maintain project competitiveness.
Warranty periods are also extending as the market matures.
According to Butko, battery storage systems could soon offer guarantees of up to 20 years, while in some markets, developers are already considering operational contracts lasting up to 25 years.
These long-term agreements aim to ensure high levels of availability and performance for energy storage projects, typically including monitoring services, technical support and operation and maintenance (O&M).
